The Master of Arts in Sociology is a two-year postgraduate programme designed to develop a deeper understanding of society, social institutions, human behaviour and contemporary social issues. The curriculum covers classical and contemporary sociological theories, Indian society, social stratification, development, urban sociology, political sociology, population studies and social problems. Students also study research methods and techniques to understand qualitative and quantitative approaches to social research. Areas such as family, kinship, crime, industrial sociology, globalisation and agrarian society broaden their understanding of changing social structures. A research project in the final semester helps learners apply sociological concepts and research methods to a focused area of study.
